Nvidia’s H20 Chip Orders Surge as US Eases AI Export Restrictions to China
Nvidia has placed orders for 300,000 H20 chipsets with TSMC following the TRUMP administration's reversal of AI chip export restrictions to China. This marks a significant shift in US-China chip negotiations, potentially unlocking billions in revenue.
The new orders will supplement an existing inventory of 600,000 to 700,000 H20 chips previously produced. Chinese tech giants including Tencent, ByteDance, and Alibaba have substantially increased their purchases, driving demand.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang indicated during a recent Beijing trip that production levels WOULD be determined by H20 chip demand. The move represents a complete reversal of April's national security-driven ban on AI chip exports.
